Cat hitches a ride on a train

Cat hitches a ride on a train

A found on a freight train is believed to have hitched a ride travelling on it for over a hundred miles, from Teeside on the east coast of England to Cumbria on the west coast.

What makes is worse is that the cat did not even have a ticket! The cat was found at a train depot in Carlisle, when the empty carriages were being checked to make sure that they were empty.

The female cat with colourings of white and tortoise shell appeared to be shocked but otherwise she was ok and is now living in a cat refuge in Carlisle, while the staff try to find the cat’s owner.

Sam Glencross, from Direct Rail Services, said: "It was clear it had been there for a long time, as it was very shaken. It took a bit of coaxing to get it off, but eventually it did so.

"We took it into the office and once it was in a normal environment it calmed down a bit.

"However, it still took two people to get it into a box so it could go to a refuge."

She added: "It's been the talk of the depot."

The cat found its way onto a ledge underneath the train where it remained until the railway staff found her, to make things worse for the cat, the train only stopped once on the entire journey.

Nicky Diebel, from the Animals Refuge in Carlisle, said: "We would like to reunite it with its owners, but if you lose a cat in Teesside you wouldn't think of ringing up a refuge in Cumbria."
